Beloved dei Mumford & Sons inizia con dinamiche sommesse, con un riff acustico accompagnato da una cassa timida. Nella seconda parte della strofa arrivano gli abbellimenti con altri riff che arricchiscono l’ambiente creato dalle prime battute. La percezione è quella di qualcosa di straziante e rassegnato, ma soprattutto evocativo. La voce si intensifica a metà brano, poi, quando la batteria si apre sul rullante e il beat si fa più incisivo. Le capacità vocali di Marcus e soci sono evidenti, se consideriamo l’intensità dei cori che rendono la canzone più completa e profonda.

Con Beloved dei Mumford & Sons entriamo ancora una volta nella dimensione indie-folk della band, che da anni è divenuta un nome fondamentale per le nuove evoluzioni del brit-pop e soprattutto per una nuova concezione dell’impiego di strumenti tradizionali nella musica mainstream.
